Catrina Lamps
The Folk Tree’s Day of the Dead Altars & Ephemera exhibition features traditional altars honoring loved ones who have passed, as well as installations dealing with broader contemporary issues and concepts about death. Also on view is a large selection of work in various media by local artists and Mexican folk art commemorating the holiday.
This was the debut for my Catrina Table Lamp. The light beneath the dark shade “hat” illuminates the Catrina’s curves and highlights the copperhead snake that entwines her body. The path is lit for several new lamps down the road. While this lamp is no longer with us (she sold on the first day of the show). A taller, more stately beauty is still available for purchase by the artist. Shown to the left, she stands close to 30″ tall including her lampshade hat and can support up to a 75 watt bulb.
